Jazz pianist Jason Rebello will create a special musical piece for pupils at Prior Park College

After touring internationally with big names like Sting and Jeff Beck, jazz pianist Jason Rebello is working closer to home with pupils at Prior Park College.

Mr Rebello, who lives in Bath, is composing a special piece for the college's music groups, including its award-winning senior chapel choir.

He is currently artist in residence at the Wiltshire Music Centre in Bradford on Avon, and was asked to write the piece by the college's director of music Roland Robertson.

Pupils will perform the piece at a grand concert in May next year.

On November 8 Mr Rebello will perform at the Wiltshire Music Centre with jazz singer Ola Onabule and pupils will also be part of his band on the night.

Mr Rebello said: "The piece largely involves the choir, but also gives many instrumentalists a chance to shine too. It is a mixture of all the music I love: jazz, classical, folk, and pop.

"I feel that in today's world of high-pressure achieving, the opportunity to learn something like music, for its own sake, is a wonderful thing for youngsters.

"It teaches them self-discipline, confidence to express themselves, and gives them the wonderful feeling of being part of a team, all working to the same end."
