Theatre Bath will offer workshops to those hoping to improve their production skills thanks to extra funding.

Bath and North East Somerset Council and Arts Council England have provided the money, which will allow the theatre to produce a series of events, from improvisation to Shakespeare.

The first to be held will be an improvisation workshop with Bath comedy legend, and Theatre Royal Bath Pantomime actor, Jon Monie.

Creative Director Luke John Emmett said: "We are delighted that our Arts Council and B&NES funding bids were accepted. It means we can offer so much more than we previously could to anyone with an interest in theatre in Bath.

"We pride ourselves on employing local practitioners to run these workshops for the benefit of others in the Bath theatre community. We want these workshops to be as accessible to as many people as possible and therefore the price will always be affordable.

"I can't wait to announce the other exciting things we have lined up over the next 12 months.

"We are extremely grateful for the support that B&NES, the Arts Council and the theatre community in Bath have shown us."

Mr Monie added: "I am pleased to be able to support Theatre Bath with this workshop. It is suitable for anyone and all abilities from novice to seasoned improviser.

"The workshop will be a lot of fun as well as teaching attendees invaluable spontaneity skills which are essential to the actors arsenal."

The event will take place on September 29 from 7pm to 9pm. Tickets cost £6 and the theatre can be contacted on 07939 403159.

Theatre Bath is an independent community organisation, set up three years ago, which aims to promote theatre within the area.
