Bath comes top of South West in Bloom competition

Bath has won the gold medal at this year's South West in Bloom competition.

It was announced the winner of the Tesco Cup after beating Paignton, Torquay and Weston-super-Mare.

The city has also claimed the Sponsors Cup, for the most meritorious entry, as well as picking up awards in other categories.

Alexandra Park was awarded the silver gilt in the Parks Award, St Stephen's also achieved the silver gilt in the allotments category, and Keynsham won a silver gilt.

Bath in Bloom committee chairman Barry Cruse thanked the communities for their hard work.

"We have come top again and I was really proud to collect the awards for everyone.

"Community participation and working together is what this is all about and the council's park department has worked so hard as well."

The awards were picked up at a ceremony in Trowbridge with around 450 people in attendance from across the South West.

Bath will now compete at the Britain in Bloom national finals in two weeks.
