A Bath charity which has been helping disadvantaged people in the city since 1174 wants to hear from other charities and social enterprises in the city which could benefit from a new £4 million lending fund.
St John's Hospital Social Investment Programme is designed to help organisations with social, cultural and environmental aims. The loans will be from £25,000 upwards, and will be made over the next four years.
Sue Cooper, head of social investment at St John's Hospital, said: "These are loans that will make a considerable difference to the impact enterprises can make on the local community by enabling them, for instance, to purchase equipment, expand premises or employ more people."
Interest will be charged on the loans, but at the lowest possible rate.
St John's Hospital made its own money through a portfolio of commercial and resident properties in Bath, and now runs alms houses for elderly and vulnerable people in the city.
The charity also runs a grants programme for worthy causes.
Any organisation with makes a positive difference to people who live in and around Bath can qualify for the loans.
The loans programme was launched recently with a series of seminars about how it works.
The next one will take place on Thursday, October 18 at Thrings Solicitors, Queen Square, Bath.
