Bath's hottest festival, the Bath Chilli Festival, is today

Bath's hottest festival, the Bath Chilli Festival, begins at 11am today.

The festival, at The University of Bath, is running a number of activities, from how to make chilli cocktails and curry on a budget, to world record attempts.

Adventurous eaters will be able to try a variety of hot dishes at the festival market.

This year's traders include The Bath Pig, The Winking Chilli, The Chilli Hut and Jam Tart Preserves, as well as Hot-Headz and Timmy's Chillies.

The Great Bath Curry Competition takes place between 11am and 1.30pm.

Eleven caterers will produce two curries, one mild and one hot, and visitors will be able to purchase two different coloured spoons, one black for the hot curries and one white for the mild.

Those with two spoons can taste all 22 curries on offer from sample pots and vote for their favourite by placing their spoon into a numbered jar at the voting station.

The winning curries with the most spoons will win a cash prize of £250 per curry.

There will be live music throughout the day, including tunes from Laz's Blues Band, The Counterpart, Jon Chouler and the Cadbury Sisters.

A chilli themed fancy dress competition for kids is also running and the winner will win an Amazon voucher.

Pirates are welcome at the festival and anyone dressed as a pirate will receive special deals from selected traders.

Use the main entrance to the University of Bath to access the festival, turn right after the Sports Training Village and park in the east car park.

University parking costs £2 per day. The site is behind the main bus stop.

The event finishes at 6pm. For more information visit www.bathchillifestival.com
