Traffic and travel updates as snow brings chaos to the Bath area

3.00pm: The M48 Severn Bridge has been closed in both directions because of hazardous driving conditions. 1.46pm: Bus services No 21 and 31 about to start running again. 1.40pm: Buses running again in Bath. First reports No 14 operating to Odd Down via Wellsway only, unable to get to Bloomfield Drive, Weston Village and Eastfield Avenue. 1.05pm: Avon and Somerset Police said snow is causing 20 minute delays on the M4 eastbound between Bath and Bristol. 12.45pm: First flights boarding today at Bristol Internatinal Airport. 12.40pm: No South West trains will call at Bath Spa, Bradford on Avon, Bristol Temple Meads, Trowbridge, Warminster and Westbury stations tomorrow (Saturday, January 19). 12.23pm: Gritters have helped clear the A37 at Rush Hill in Farrington Gurney. 12.14pm: Most trains running through Bath subject to delays and some cancelled. 12.05pm: Highways authorities warn of hazardous driving conditions around the Second Severn Crossing and advise drivers to approach with care. 11.38am: Snow has blocked one lane and is causing hazardous driving conditions on the M48 Severn Bridge. 11.32am: An earlier accident on the M4 slip road at junction 18 near Bath has been cleared. 11.14am: Still no flights in or out of Bristol International Airport. 11.00am: Passengers facing more train delays and cancellations at Bath Spa Station. 10.50am: M4 eastbound re-opened between Bath and Bristol. 10.35am: A jacknifed lorry has blocked two lanes of the M5 motorway between the Almondsbury Interchange and Thornbury. Expect tailbacks. 9.58am: An accident is causing delays westbound on the M4 between Chippenham and Swindon West. 9.55am: Long delays and huge queues on M4 and closure. 9.45am: M4 has been closed eastbound between Bath and Bristol because of snow and a broken down lorry. 9.35am: Reports that no buses are running in Bath now. 9.30am: Train services through Bath Spa Station now hit by severe delays, some between 50 and 70 minutes. 9.23am: The A46 at Tormarton has been re-opened following an accident. 9.20am: Lansdown Road in Bath is closed in both directions at the George Street junction because of snow. 9.05am: First suspends a number of bus services in Bath. 8.50am: Broken down car on the M4 between Chippenham and Swindon has been cleared. 8.45am: A broken down lorry has blocked one lane of the M4 eastbound between Bristol and Bath. 8.32am: Avon and Somerset Police advise motorists to stay off the roads. 8.28am: Now an accident is causing problems on the junction 18 slip road. 8.25am: Delays and hazardous driving conditions reported near Bath at junction 18 on the M4. 8.17am: Brassknocker Hill and Dunkerton Hill impassable. 8.14am: An accident has partially blocked the slip road at junction 18 of the M4 near Bath. 8.10am: Snow and restrictions on the M48 Severn Bridge. 8.06am: A bus stuck in snow has blocked Westwells Road in Corsham near Park Lane. 8.04:am: First in Bath said most bus services were operating. "Some are terminating early and the suspicion is that Service 18 will be unable to serve Bathwick Hill but we will update this information later this morning. "Some rural routes have been suspended because roads are not passable in places." 8.00am: A vehicle stuck on Dunkerton Hill is blocking the route although Bath and North East Somerset Council gritters are on their way to try and free the vehicle. 7.56am: @BathCommunityAC tweeted: "Bath Community Academy is closed due to the number of staff unable to safely reach the building." 7.50am: London Road in Chippenham is closed near the Hardens Mead junction because of ice. 7.46am: An accdent on the A46 at Upper Swainswick. 7.44am: Reports that no flights can take-off or land at Bristol International Airport. 7.40am: A jacknifed lorry has partially blocked the A4 in Beckhampton. 7.38am: Heavy traffic on the M4 in both directions between Bath and Swindon because of snow. 7.35am: Bath Racecourse ‏@BathRacecourse tweeted: "Please note the racecourse is shut & inaccessible to the public. Please do not attempt to visit the site as your car is likely to get stuck!" 7.30am: Bristol International Airport is open but said some disruption to flights is expected. 7.15am: The A37 Wells Road in Keynsham is closed in both directions between West Town Lane and Priory Road by an accident involving a lorry. 7.08am: Treacherous driving conditions on A367 from Radstock and Peasedown St John to Bath and the A362 to Frome. 7.05am: Snow closes M4 in South Wales in both directions. 6.55am: B&NES Council tweeted: "Gritters have been out all night doing a tough job." 6.42am: All lanes re-opened on the Second Severn Crossing. 6.40am: Reports of accident on A46 Bath Road at B4465. 6.31am: Ice has closed London Road in Chippenham. 6.30am: An accident has blocked Kelston Road in Keynsham at the Charlton Road junction. 6.22am: BBC weatherman Ian Fergusson @fergieweather tweeted: "Snow forecast to continue through morning. Some disruption expected. Please contact your airline to check flight status." 6.20am: 6.39 from train from Chippenham to Bath delayed. 6,15am: First Great Western train services are running this morning. The 6.54 to Swansea is delayed. 6.10am: No South West trains running through Bath Spa, Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge, Warminster and Westbury stations today. 6am update: One lane is blocked on the M4 Second Severn Crossing eastbound by an accident. The A303 in closed in both directions near Newcott in Devon. Avon and Somerset Police warned of hazardous driving conditions in South Wales because of snow.
