Labour Leader Ed Miliband has said the minimum wage will increase to £8 an hour if the party are elected in next year's general election.
The pay increase would come by 2020 he has promised, during the minimum term of five years the party would be in power for.
Under the current Conservative government, the minimum wage is to increase from £6.31 to £6.50 as of next month.
An increase then of £1.50 would mean on average £60 a week and £3,000 a year more to people's salaries.
At present, in Bath and North East Somerset 3.6 per cent of jobs are minimum wage jobs, while the Low Pay Commission estimates there are 1,386,000 minimum wage jobs across the UK.
The policy plans were unveiled by Mr Miliband in interviews with the Sunday Mirror and Observer newspapers.
