Waging war on student homes plan in Newbridge, Bath

Residents in Newbridge are opposing a planning application to build student accommodation.

An outline planning application has been submitted to build more than 260 bedrooms at the former Hartwells garage on Newbridge Road.

This includes 194 rooms in flats and 70 bedrooms in a row of 14 two-story terraced houses.

Residents have submitted objections and general comments to the proposals with concerns over increased parking, noise and traffic as well as saying the area does not need student accommodation.

Newbridge Road resident Alan Champneys is leading a campaign opposing the latest plans.

"We have seen the new plans but I am concerned that our views have not been considered. They aren't much different from before.

"The company has said it has reduced the number of houses but it appears as if they could build rooms in the attics and have basement flats, meaning the buildings will not actually be two- storey as has been put forward."

People can view the planing application on www.bath nes.gov.uk and have until October 2 to submit views.

A decision is due to be made by December 1.
