There was a record number of entries for this year's Bath in Bloom competition, which celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Entries were submitted across various categories with a total of 22 winners picking up awards.

A presentation evening was held at the Guildhall on Monday with hundreds of people celebrating this year's awards.

Chairman of the Bath in Bloom committee, Barry Cruse, said the standard of entries had continued to rise.

"We had the most number of entries submitted to the competition in this very special year for us.

"The awards ceremony had such a fantastic atmosphere and everyone really enjoyed themselves.

"The response from people this year has been magnificent and the standard continues to be so high.

"All in all, there were fantastic results, and we are now awaiting the results from the South West in Bloom competition."

Entrants for Bath in Bloom included individuals, schools, pubs and pub gardens, community projects, and other businesses, with one winner selected for each category.

For the last half a century, Bath has been associated with its garden and floral scenery.

Since it started in 1964, Bath has entered into Britain in Bloom which it has won 13 times, and being a finalist 17 times. It was the first national winner of the competition.

Bath became a finalist again at this year's Britain in Bloom, while winning the Tesco Cup category last year.

The Bath in Bloom competition has worked with local communities over the years, expanding to work with groups within the surrounding areas of the city.
