Sir Bradley Wiggins does not believe that Bath cycle fans will be cheering a home winner when stage six of the Tour of Britain gets under way in front of the Royal Crescent at 10.15am on Friday.
The former Tour de France winner currently sits sixth overall, 27 behinds Poland's Michal Kwiatkowski who claimed the yellow jersey from Edoardo Zardini with victory in stage four in Bristol on Wednesday.
Wiggins thinks that has ended his chances of retaining the title but is determined to keep challenging for a top-three finish.
"I'm still up there but on paper first place has gone now," said Wiggins, who will be joined by fellow TeamGB Olympian Mark Cavendish in the peloton as it goes past The Circus, The Rec and Bath Abbey at the start of a 127.9miles race to Hemel Hempstead on Friday.
"I can't see myself getting 27 seconds on Kwiatkowski but the podium is only 12 seconds away and it's not over to the end. You have to be in there to try and win it, which I am."
Day five's racing will take place from Exmouth to Exeter on Thursday.
