American President Barack Obama has made an unexpected visit to a Wiltshire landmark.
The US leader decided to divert his route back from the NATO Summit in Newport via Stonehenge tonight.
The first people knew about the presidential visit was when Obama's motorcade pulled up at the site's visitors' centre.
The President was taken down to the stones, and spent a few minutes being given a guided tour by officials there, before heading off and flying back to RAF Fairford and home across the Atlantic.
The press following him were kept back on the old A344 road, but members of the White House press corps managed to get first pictures from a distance of the President and his entourage touring the stones, and took to Twitter to report his visit.
