Missing Bath man Desmond O'Sullivan has been rescued by police from the River Avon and is now recovering in hospital.
Officers received a call at 12.15pm on Sunday from a member of the public who reported seeing a man in a dangerous position on the riverbank, close to Pulteney Bridge.
When they arrived they found the 56-year-old in the water in obvious difficulty and two police officers swam out to rescue him.
He has been identified as Mr O'Sullivan, who suffers from dementia and was reported missing on Thursday night, and he is now recovering in hospital.
Avon and Somerset Police have thanked the public and the media for all their assistance with this inquiry.
