Oliver has replaced Harry as the favourite boy baby name, with Amelia top of the girl's rankings for a third year running.

The list, compiled for births in England and Wales in 2013, shows Oscar rising 10 places to 7, with Poppy a new entry to the girls big league, shunting out Lily as it rose from 13 to 7.

Ronnie (90, +15), Teddy (86, +55), Austin (94, +108) and Albert (99, +109) were all new in the top 100 names for boys, continuing a trend for what might be termed 'vintage' names. Also new for the boys 100 were Ibrahim (86, +18) and Felix (91, +23). Rhys (101), Ellis (103), Kayden (104), Bailey (113), Taylor (118) and Kyle (120) slipped out.

The theme was replicated in the top 100 names for girls, with Victoria (88, +18), Darcy (93, +14) and Beatrice (19, +19) booting out Keira (110) and Caitlin (114). A draw at 100 saw three join and two leave.

But while famous births often lift names up the charts, Prince George has few namesakes. Despite occupying a slot in the top ten for the first seven months of the year, the name enjoyed by the son of the Cambridges dropped from the top list altogether.

Amelia and Olivia held the top two places for girls in the South West, with the region proving the most popular location for Poppy by rank, though more babies were given the name in the North West. Continuing the floral theme, Lily ranked highest in the South West, though again outdone in actual number in the East and South East.

For boys in the West Country, the top three followed the national trend, but Charlie and Oscar both jumped ahead at the expense of Thomas and Jacob. But those two remained the only religious references in the region's top ten, with Mohammed/Muhammad, which featured in the top ten for the West Midlands, London, Yorkshire and the North West.
