Local pop punks The Violet Urchins are coming to The Hive on London Road to celebrate the launch of their brand new self titled EP on Thursday, August 21.
The event, more of a scaled down festival, is the result of massive collaboration between the Urchins and a cohort of local bands, artists and writers culminating in one big show at The Hive that The Violet Urchins will be headlining.
Also playing will be Television Villain, Kerensa Mason and Conway, with Alec Wilson (lead vocals and lead guitar) eager for the event to be reminiscent of the Factory Movement of the late '70s.
The EP signals the culmination of a summer Wilson spent with bandmates Chris Yeoh (bass and vocals) and Matt Leigh (drums) in the studio penning tracks by night and recording them by day.
If the last 50 years of contemporary music had a scrapbook, it'd be the Urchins' EP. Wilson's vocals owe a lot to Jack White while musically you can hear everything from The Jam to Adam & The Ants and back again.
With an album, made up of 11 new songs, right around the corner the boys were keen to get their sound out there to gauge public opinion.
You can hear The Violet Urchin's first single, The Devil In Her, on their facebook page.
Music starts at 8pm and admission is free.
