Travellers move on to Lansdown Park and Ride site in Bath

The council is seeking legal action after a group of travellers moved on to the Lansdown Park and Ride site.

The small collection of caravans arrived at the car park just before the weekend and when Bath and North East Somerset Council officials visited them, assured that they would be leaving on Saturday or Sunday.

However, they were still there on Monday and now the local authority is looking into options to have them evicted.

A B&NES Council spokeswoman said: "There is a small group of travellers (five caravans) on the Lansdown Park and Ride site – last week they assured us they would leave the site at the weekend.

"Because they didn't move on we are now taking appropriate legal action. We will be visiting the site twice daily to monitor the situation."

It is understood that this is the same group of travellers who have previously been at the Lidl site in Lower Bristol Road and a field in Lansdown where the car boot sales are held.

Avon and Somerset Police have previously said that it is a civil matter, not a criminal one, say they will only be involved if help is needed to impose a court order.
