Glasgow 2014: Team Bath netball players cannot save England from defeat in bronze medal match

England's netballers left the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games without a medal as they lost 52-48 to Jamaica in a play-off on Sunday.

Current Team Bath players Stacey Francis and Serena Guthrie were in the England squad along with a host of former team-mates but they could not inspire their team to victory at The Hydro.

England had only just missed out on a place in the gold-medal match following a one-goal defeat to New Zealand on Saturday and made a strong start against Jamaica, leading 13-11 after the first quarter.

However, Jamaica quickly moved in front and were leading 25-24 at half-time before England levelled the scores at 37-37 going into the final 15 minutes.

Jamaica then pulled away in the closing stages to finish four goals clear and win the bronze medal.

England head coach Anna Mayes, a former Team Bath player, said: "Credit to the girls, they threw everything both physically and mentally out there in the semi-final and it was so unfortunate not to finish off that game.

"And then today we were definitely coming out all guns blazing, but I think we were a bit tentative, a bit nervous particularly in that first half. We did wear them down in terms of defensively but we were not clinical enough when we needed to be.

"Using this as a positive is the only option in terms of moving forward.

"We will unpick all our performances, we will debrief but unfortunately we weren't good enough in that match. Credit to Jamaica, they scored when they needed to."
