Between them they have taught thousands of lessons, encouraged countless students and probably dished out their share of detentions and gold stars.
But after 81 years at the chalk face a pair of teachers from Beechen Cliff School have set homework for the very last time.
As the school's students head off to enjoy their six-week summer holiday Peter Gregory and Judith Anderson are embarking on a new chapter in their lives as they retire.
Mr Gregory started at The City of Bath Boys' School in September 1970, being one of the last teachers to join the old grammar school prior to its amalgamation with Oldfield to create Beechen Cliff.
He is in fact the last "master" left on the staff after 44 years at the school.
Mr Gregory was well known for his love of sport and ran the 1st XI cricket team, basketball and supported the U16 rugby team. His county level coaching was also renowned and many young sports stars emerged in his time including John Hall, the Withey brothers and even current Beechen Cliff teacher Chris Appleton.
During his 44 years at the school Mr Gregory taught a variety of subjects such as geography, careers, business studies, French and archaeology, as well as serving as head of humanities.
Kant Mann, assistant headmaster, said: "He has been a very strong presence in the school for so many years that it will be difficult to imagine the place without him. We wish him every success in his future ventures, the key one being to spend even more time following Bath Rugby."
Judith Anderson has been a teacher at Beechen Cliff for 37 years.
She joined the school as a young recruit but soon established herself within the school community, not only developing her academic work with the students but also representing the cricketers as a scorer.
During her time there she worked as head of chemistry and head of science as well as taking part in the school's choir.
Mr Mann said: "There is no doubt that the many boys who passed through her hands will remember the clarity of knowledge and interest in the subject which underpinned her lessons.
"We wish Ms Anderson well as she moves on to pastures new, hopefully reflecting with pride on her achievements at Beechen Cliff School."
