Bath City Farm enjoys fun day in the sun for annual fundraiser

The weather could not have been any better for those who went to Bath City Farm today.

The farm on Kelston View held its annual fundraising event, the Big Farm Fundrasier, to help support itself.

The event was held in association with Our Big Gig - a national event which celebrates local music. Nine groups from the Bath area played throughout the day.

Families arrived at the farm from 11am which is free to enter.

There was plenty to keep children entertained with a penalty shootout, tombola, produce for sale, splat the rat and animals on show.

The farm covers 37 acres of land and homes goats, chickens, ducks, sheep, pigs and Shetland ponies.

Farm manager Matt Smail said: "This is our most important event of the year and promises to be the biggest to date. For anyone who has used the farm's free facilities, this is a great opportunity to support a worthwhile cause.

"To get between 400 and 500 people is a good day for us but it is hard to know as it isn't ticketed to get in and people come and go.

"It's a perfect day for it though and we couldn't have asked for better really."

The farm hopes to raise around £1,000 from the day's event.

Parent Stephanie Franklin said: "It looks so good and there is lots to do. The weather is great and the kids have made some friends. We have been here a few times before so we know all about the farm and there is a lot to see.

University technician Tom Durnford said it is nice to have the farm, running the event, close by.

"It's great and I like it here. It's nice to have this kind of facility on your doorstep. I haven't been to the fundrasiers before, but my wife comes here quite a bit. It's a pleasant surprise to have this kind of day."

Josh Morris, 10, said: "I think it's really fun because they have the play areas and live music down near the fields, and it's really nice. It's my first time here and I'm looking forward to seeing all the animals."

Morpheus Tollon, 8 from Whiteway, added: "I've seen the pigs and they were fun and I am looking forward to seeing the ducks and the chickens. I enjoy it every time I come here."

Bath City Farm is a registered charity with all proceeds from the sale of its produce going towards the upkeep of the farm.
