Keynsham residents get together for annual music festival

Kenysham residents were out in force to enjoy the sunshine at the memorial park for the grand finale of Keynsham Music Festival.

This year's festival was bigger and better than ever and saw around 20,000 people pour into the park to revel in the festivities.

Local amateur musician and organiser Ric Davison said: "This year we have involved more people and more community groups which is great.

"We have more local bands performing and a lot more involvement than ever before so I'm really chuffed.

"This is not just a boozy rock festival, the whole week is about quality music and art."

As well as local and international musicians, the festival included entertainment for all ages including a bouncy castles and a variety of different stalls and activities.

Lorna Morris, from Keynsham, said: "It's excellent, the whole family have come together in the sunshine and it's been lovely.

"It's a great way to get the community together."

Now in its 17th year, the festival displays a host of local talent from classical musicians to teenage rock bands across four stages in the park.

Emma Joliffe, Simone Sullivan and Natalie Mott, all from Keynsham, come to the festival every year.

Miss Joliffe said: "It's a bit of a tradition for us, so it would feel wrong to miss it plus it's nice and sunny today which is a bonus.

"It's a good way to get together and hang out and a good excuse to see all our friends."

Miss Mott added: "Keynsham is a lot more up-and-coming these days and events like this help put us on the map."

This year's festival was sponsored by Wilmott Dixon and Waitrose, with additional funding from Keynsham Town Council and B&NES art development fund.

Mr Davison added: "This started as a community festival and it remains a community festival, but now it's on a much larger scale which is great."
