The event, organised by the Holcombe playing field committee, included activities for all ages from hay bale tossing to an egg and spoon race.
Playing field committee secretary Marnie Stratford said support for the event has been fantastic from both people inside the village and outside communities.
She said: "We wanted to bring back a traditional village fete and bring together different village organisations.
"Holcombe gala ran for many years, but unfortunately nothing happened last year after the original committee retired.
"At the playing field committee we thought why not revive the gala and at the same time help raise money for new equipment for the playing field, for both young and old."
Adults and youngsters alike were out in force to support the event, which also included a dog show, hair braiding and face painting, first aid demonstrations, a bouncy castle and fairground ride, a variety of stalls and raffles, and music from the Midsomer Norton brass band.
Lee Wadsworth, from Holcombe, said: "It's a nice sunny day and a good community event, a good way to support the village. If you don't do this sort of thing then you don't really get to know your neighbours so it's nice to see a lot of people out and about."
Mr Wadsworth said his family had particularly enjoyed the dog show, and daughter Mia, 7, was hoping to take part in the egg and spoon race.
Daughter Elen, 11, said: "My favourite part of the day was when I had my hair braided which was really fun. It's a fun day, I've had a look at all the different stalls and bought a few things as well."
Ms Stratford added: "The turnout has been fantastic, it's a real bringing together of communities.
"Everyone has been more than happy to support the gala, and everyone is so happy and pleased we've revived it. No one has said a bad word, it's been quite overwhelming."
