MATCH REPORT: Germany 2 Ghana 2
Miroslav Klose made history as he grabbed a vital equaliser to keep Germany in control of Group G.
The substitute's goal 19 minutes from the end was his 15th in World Cup finals – taking him level with Brazilian Ronaldo at the top of the all-time scoring charts.
Mario Goetze broke the deadlock for Germany with a 51st-minute header but two goals in less than ten minutes thereafter from Andre Ayew and Asamoah Gyan had turned the game on its head before Klose pounced.
Germany now have four points in Group G after their opening win over Portugal with Cristiano Ronaldo's team to face Ghana's first match conquerors the USA on Sunday night.
A tight first half saw Ghana fashion the better chances, with Manuel Neuer twice being tested from distance by Christian Atsu and Sulley Muntari.
Ghana forced the first opening of the game when former Sunderland striker Gyan met Atsu's cross but was unable to keep his shot down.
Thomas Muller, who would end the match with a serious-looking head injury after a clash with Ghana's John Boye, was brimming with confidence following his opening day hat-trick and only a last ditch tackle from the man who floored him late on prevented him turning home Mesut Ozil's cross after 20 minutes.
Gradually Ghana were growing in confidence and Neuer was forced into action once again from Muntari's first-time shot from 25 yards while at the other end, Goetze struck a volley straight at Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda.
It took Germany six minutes into the second half to open the scoring though as Muller was given time in the Ghana half to look up and deliver a pin-point cross for Goetze, who headed down onto his knee and past Dauda.
But the lead lasted less than three minutes. Right-back Harrison Afful delivered a cross from the right towards the far post, where Ayew out jumped Shkodran Mustafi to power a header past Neuer for his second goal in as many games.
And Ghana were ahead nine minutes later. Germany captain Philipp Lahm gave the ball away in midfield and Muntari delivered a through ball to Gyan who kept his composure to fire past Neuer for his fifth World Cup goal, equaling the record by an African player.
It could have been 3-1 moments later when substitute Jordan Ayew powered past Sami Khedira and Per Mertesacker, winning his 100th cap for Germany, but with Gyan free in the centre, he chose to go alone and shot straight at Neuer.
And the miss proved to be costly as Germany equalised on 71 minutes. Toni Kroos' corner was headed towards goal by Benedikt Hoewedes and Klose was on hand at the far post to turn home with his first touch, having come on as a substitute seconds earlier.
Jordan Ayew and Gyan went close late on for Ghana, while Klose almost claimed the record outright but pulled a shot wide.
