Wimbledon 2014: Dream Maria Sharapova clash awaits Team Bath's Samantha Murray in first round of women's singles

Team Bath tennis ace Samantha Murray has been handed a dream first-round match against former champion Maria Sharapova at Wimbledon.

The 27-year-old Russian triumphed at the French Open last month and is bidding to win the crown at SW19 for the first time since she shocked the tennis world by capturing it as a teenager a decade ago.

Murray, meanwhile, made her women's singles debut last year and fell at the first hurdle with a defeat to Italy's Camila Giorgi.

"I'm really pleased to be given a wildcard again as it's such an amazing tournament to be involved in," said Murray, 26.

"I had my first practice session on Tuesday and it just feels so good to be there and walk around the place again. "I'm still getting used to everything that goes on at Wimbledon.

"For a player like me to eat in the same restaurant as Roger Federer is a little bit surreal. I'm a tennis fan at the end of the day.

"I was a little nervous last year and started slowly. I was up against a really good grass court player but I think I got better the longer the match went on.

"I'll go into this year a little bit more experienced and better for having played here before."

In the men's draw, champion Andy Murray will open his title defence against David Goffin on Centre Court on Monday at 1pm.
