Bath shop goes World Cup crazy as it backs football-based charity

If you look into the window of one Bath furniture store you might not expect to see the colours of Brazil, international flags and a set of goalposts.

But that is the window display of the TR Hayes showroom which is supporting a football-based charity throughout this year's World Cup.

TR Hayes is working with the Kits4Causes charity which collects and distributes donated football kits and equipment to other causes around the world.

People have been invited to donate their unwanted football kits, equipment and shirts to be entered into a draw with the chance of winning one of the store's own colourful Fatboy beanbags.

Company director Richard Hayes said he wanted to do something different with the store after seeing images of the favelas in Brazil.

"Everyone has to try and do something different. Our British way is to let things pass without doing anything," he said.

"It is great to be able to do something alongside the World Cup with a charitable element. Every day we should be lucky we have our health and we are where we are, especially when you see some of the pictures of the slums in Brazil.

"I have three young children of my own now and I am very aware of what they need and these kids in Brazil might not be having the same."

The competition winner will be contacted on July 10, the day after the semi-final fixtures.

To donate items and enter the competition, fans can visit the showroom on Walcot Street and will need to complete a short form.

Those who also want to join in the fun on social media are being invited to take pictures of themselves outside the store and tweet it with the hashtag #TRHayescompetition. Tweeters will then be in with a chance to be entered into a further mini prize draw which will take place after each England match.

"Our competitions are light hearted and fun, and something any football fan can get involved in, with all clothes and kit donations going straight to Kits 4 Causes," said Mr Hayes.

"We are hoping people driving past the window will see the poster and we are hoping to make people as aware as possible about the charity through social media.

"We are trying to do as much as possible and we are hoping to be able to give Kits4Causes as much as we can through people's kind donations.

"This is only the start of the campaign and we are hoping for it to be a very successful. It's nice to be doing something that is putting back in."
