A man has been arrested after two people were killed in a crash between a lorry and a van which closed a westbound section of the M4 this morning.
The motorway has now reopened, but was shut on the westbound side at junction 17 for Chippenham, while lane three of the eastbound carriageway was also closed.
The collision happened just after 4.30am, with the vehicles crashing near one of the slip roads.
Two men in the van were pronounced dead at the scene while two other men from the same vehicle have been taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with serious injuries.
A fifth man travelling in the van has been taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon with less serious injuries.
Wiltshire Police said a 37-year-old man from Aberdare in Wales had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
