Jenson Button secured his best result of the season with a fourth-placed finish at the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday as Daniel Ricciardo claimed a shock win for Red Bull.
Frome Flyer Button benefited from a last-lap collision between the Williams of Felipe Massa and Sergio Perez's Force India to finish one place off the podium.
The McLaren driver had started ninth of the grid in Montreal but in the end was only beaten by Ricciardo, Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg and the Red Bull of world champion Sebastian Vettel.
Button told the BBC: "If you got caught in traffic it was difficult to overtake but I fought my way through in the end.
"The incident with Sergio and Felipe you don't want to see but they are OK which is good and I had that little dice with Fernando [Alonso] and [Nico] Hulkenberg and went down the inside of both of them. It was a fun race and some reasonable points.
"In a straight-forward race we wouldn't have finished fourth but I feel we are making progress with the car and the team should be happy."
Mercedes had looked on course to collect a seventh victory from seven races this term as Rosberg and team-mate Lewis Hamilton dominated the opening laps before a dramatic finish unfolded at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
Both Mercedes drivers suffered car problems after the second round of pit stops, which forced Hamilton to retire and allowed the chasing pack to close on Rosberg.
Ricciardo eventually passed Rosberg on the penultimate lap, although the German clung on to second place ahead of Vettel to increase his lead in the world championship.
Massa and Perez had also been involved in the fight for the final podium place but the pair were involved in a heavy crash on the last lap, promoting Button to fourth as a result.
