Jenson Button qualified ninth for Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix as Nico Rosberg maintained Mercedes' perfect pole record in 2014.
Frome Flyer Button got his McLaren into the top ten shoot-out in Montreal but was only able to post a time quicker than the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen.
Championship leader Rosberg held off team-mate Lewis Hamilton at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to bag his third pole and the team's seventh from seven races this term.
World champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull was third ahead of Williams pair Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa. Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo was sixth, with Fernando Alonso of Ferrari seventh and Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne eighth.
Button's McLaren team-mate Kevin Magnussen missed out on a place in the top ten and will start from 12th on the grid.
