Baltonsborough's Simon Mantell grabbed a last-gasp winner as England's men beat India 2-1 at the Rabobank World Cup in the Netherlands on Monday.
Victory was vital after Saturday's opening-day draw against Spain but England looked set to be frustrated when Mark Gleghorne's drag-flick from a penalty corner was cancelled out by Dharamvir Singh's deflection.
England lost Ashley Jackson to a green card in the second half but held firm during his time off the pitch.
They had an escape in the final ten minutes when George Pinner made a great reaction save to deny Mandeep Singh, who put the follow-up wide.
But with just two minutes to go, England won a penalty corner and, after the initial shot was blocked, Mantell followed up to produce a composed finish and secure the points for Bobby Crutchley's men.
