Steve Bradley has been chosen by the Liberal Democrats as the party's candidate to replace Don Foster in next year's general election. Party members met this afternoon at the Salvation Army hall in James Street West to debate, discuss and vote from a shortlist of six contenders. After a lengthy five-hour event they selected Mr Bradley, who is a a former Lib Dem councillor in Lambeth. The other people on the shortlist were former Bath City chairman Councillor Manda Rigby (Lib Dem, Abbey), former Mayor of Bath Councillor Andy Furse (Lib Dem, Kingsmead), media consultant Chris Lucas, Wera Hobhouse, who is a Lib Dem councillor in Rochdale, political activist Martin Turner, who had previously made the shortlist for the Somerton and Frome seat but lost. Mr Foster announced in January that he would be standing down from the seat he has held since 1992. All of the other main political parties have already announced their candidates for the 2015 General Election. The Conservatives have selected healthcare consultant Ben Howlett, Labour has chosen university student Ollie Middleton, while UKIP has announced small business owner Julian Deverell for its candidate.
