Up to 50 people took up the creative challenge to grab a camera and see the city of Bath from a whole new angle.

It was a photograph competition with a twist as entrants had just 10 hours on Saturday to take 20 photos on 20 given themes.

The one-word themes such as treasure, secret, pattern and relax were purposely chosen as they were open to interpretation.

The annual event is organised by Fringe Arts Bath (FaB) and all photos will be on show as part as a free public exhibition at 35-36 Stall Street from May 23 to June 8.

ScarlettMosnier, a FaB committee member and volunteer, said: "It's such good fun and we always have a huge mix of people taking part.

It gives people who wouldn't consider themselves artists the chance to have their work displayed at an arts festival.

"It shows how people interpret things differently as for each topic we get both literal and abstract photos.

"We'll have over 1,000 photos to put on display, it takes hours to upload them all then we have to print them all. It will be quite a show."

Entrants had approximately 30 minutes to shoot one image per topic, in the same order as the topics were listed.

They met at The Circus at 10am to collect the set of secret topics then met again at The Bell on Walcot Street at 8pm to hand over their memory cards.

Jess Myers, 23, who is taking a foundation degree in digital design at City of Bath College, took part in the photomarathon with three friends.

She said: "This is the third year I've done it as it really gets you thinking. It really makes you look at Bath in a different way and you find things you haven't even noticed before.

"We look at the topics first then think about where we can go and what we can take photos of, there's a lot of walking around holding a camera; I always think we look like tourists!"

Photomarathons have proved popular in countries across the world, including America, Nigeria, Germany and Switzerland, and the first Bath photomarathon was held eight years ago.

Fringe Arts Bath runs a two-week programme of contemporary art exhibitions, events and workshops to raise the profile of visual arts in the city.
