Disabled campaigner finishes swim challenge at old Bath school

A disabled charity campaigner has ended a gruelling swimming challenge at his old school in Bath.

John Willis, from Cambridge, was born without fully formed arms or legs.

But he has been determined not to let that hold him back, taking part in sports including swimming, croquet, golf, water skiing and rowing.

He set himself the challenge of swimming 1,000 metres in 50 pools, and finished the task at Kingswood School, where he was taught.

Mr Willis, who runs his own consultancy business, said: "We are all disabled in one way or another.

"Whether we have a physical or mental disability, struggle in a social situation, or have a fear of public speaking.

"The challenge for all of us is to not allow this disability to hold us back.

"Anything and everything is possible with a little determination and self-belief."

Mr Willis founded Power2- Inspire, which raises money to support people with different abilities in sport.

He decided to set himself the 50:50:100 challenge to fundraise for the charity, and others including the English Federation of Disability Sport, Combat Stress, and The Inspiration Federation.

The challenge saw him swim the distances in 50 pools at 50 schools in 100 days from January to April.
