A Bath war veteran has passed away, just two months before a key anniversary of the battle in which he fought.
Wallace Troutt, of Freeview Road, Twerton, had been keen to attend celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy in June this year.
Mr Troutt passed away on 6th April, two months before the 6th June anniversary, aged 94.
However, his children have made sure he will fulfil his final wish.
Daughter Lynne Goodyear said: "Myself and my brother are taking his ashes, and we have permission from the Mayor of Grangues to scatter them on the Garden of Remembrance.
"So he is going after all."
As well as taking part in the D-Day landings and spending 13 months as a PoW, Mr Troutt also had memories of the Bath Blitz.
Then a 22-year-old, Mr Troutt was on a night out in Bath on the evening of the first raid. He was stationed with the army in Frome at the time.
This weekend marks the 72nd anniversary of the Bath Blitz. The event will be marked with a memorial service by the war memorial in Victoria Park at 3pm this afternoon.
