Jenson Button has labelled his McLaren car "not good enough" after trailing home 11th as Lewis Hamilton won the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday.
Frome Flyer Button and team-mate Kevin Magnussen, who finished 13th, both failed to score a world championship point for the second race in a row during a weekend to forget in Shanghai.
Button could only qualify 12th on the grid the previous day and was left to rue a poor start as he dropped several places off the line. Although he was able to work his way back up the field, a finish in the points positions never looked likely.
Button said: "It's pretty painful out there.
"I don't know what we're doing, really. When you have as bad a result as this it's tough for everyone. Hopefully the team can stay positive and update the car because this isn't good enough."
Hamilton produced a dominant drive in China to romp to a third victory in row this season, leading home team-mate Nico Rosberg for a Mercedes one-two finish.
Ferrari's Fernando Alonso was third, while world champion Sebastian Vettel finished fifth, one place behind Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.
