Bath Rugby first-team coach Toby Booth praised his side for finding a way to win against a resilient Worcester Warriors side on Saturday to strengthen their quest to finish in the Aviva Premiership play-off places.
Bath seemed on course for a comfortable victory over the league's bottom side at The Rec and built up a 17-point lead early in the second half.
Warriors are determined to go down fighting, though, and turned the game on its head with a dominant spell to cut that gap to just five points in the closing stages
A late try from Matt Banahan finally saw Bath over the line as they wrapped up the bonus point for a 32-20 success to climb to third in the Premiership table with two league games remaining.
Booth said: "The important thing at this time of year – when you don't get any second chances – is that you find a way of winning.
"The good teams find a way and that's the encouraging thing. We found a way to get the extra point, which we believe may be significant in a couple of weeks' time.
"We're obviously pleased with the outcome, although there are many aspects of the performance that we are less than satisfied with.
"And you've got to give Worcester some credit, and after scoring 30-plus points at Exeter last week. They're playing for their lives and that brings special effort.
"It doesn't matter if you score six, seven or eight tries, there's only five points on offer. I think we've played better this year and not got a four-try bonus point but that's rugby. "
Bath now have a six-point advantage over fifth-placed Harlequins and are just two points adrift of Northampton Saints in second.
Bath play both those sides in their remaining two league fixtures but Booth said the club's main concern is next weekend's Amlin Cup semi-final away at Premiership rivals Wasps.
"We play Northampton at home next in the league and have a European semi-final to worry about," said Booth.
"We'll approach each game as it comes and see where that takes us. It's mathematically possible to finish second and we strive to get as far up the table as we can.
"We are delighted with today's outcome and we need to dust ourselves down for the Wasps semi-final before we worry about the Premiership."
