A man who got lost as a three-year-old boy in Bath is trying to find the Good Samaritan who helped him 36 years on. Richard Chapman was on holiday with his family in the city in August 1978 when he became lost in Royal Victoria Park. He wandered, crying, to the main road, believed to be Upper Bristol Road, and was picked up by a passer-by who took him to Bath Police Station. He was reunited with his family and now, as a grown man with young children of his own, wants to find the woman who helped him and thank her. Mr Chapman, who was originally from the north Lincolnshire area, said: "I have never known who that woman was, but I'm convinced that in stopping her car, talking to me and taking me to the police station, she may have saved me from serious harm." He believes he was picked up in the early afternoon on a Saturday in August, possibly the bank holiday weekend. Unfortunately the police have not been able to find a record of the events as there was no crime recorded. Avon and Somerset Police have issued the appeal as part of their celebrations marking 40 years since the force was founded. Anyone who can help is asked to call 101.
