Time to celebrate, it's the penultimate showing of Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and tonight the hilarious geordie duo are really stepping things up. The programme synopsis says that boys are taking control singing action man Peter Andre and I'm hoping this will mean literally, so they can pilot him around like a wipe clean terminator. Hopefully the episode will end with him being lowered into a vat of molten metal.
Over on BBC 2 at 8.30pm there's a repeat of the hugely acclaimed The Plantagenets which sees Professor Robert Bartlett continuing the story of England's longest-ruling royal dynasty, examining how it fought to expand its power across the British Isles and win back land in France. The historian reveals how a clear sense of Englishness emerged in this golden age of chivalry, and looks at the creation of a national parliament.
Like the Culture Show special a few weeks back this is another documentary that is reminiscent of television from the 70's, focuses on the information as opposed to presentation. Jokes aside, The Plantagenets is well worth a watch.
Switching over to Channel 4 at 9pm will bring you out on a showing of The Mechanic, sure to give you a fix of Jason Statham hurting people that will last a thousand lifetimes. However, if watching a rich man's Clive Owen shoot his way through line after line of baddiesisn't your thing then try Channel 5.
Also starting at 9pm, Channel 5 is dishing up a wonderful trough of nostalgia that the whole family can fight over. I am of course referring to the Greatest Kids' TV shows. While it's a treat to hear some of the old theme tunes again, if you are planning to sit down with the kids be warned that this juggernaut rolls on until past midnight. Of course the real masterstroke would be to watch Beverly Hills Cop 3 on Channel 4 at 10.45pm and switch to Channel 5 during the ad breaks. Just a suggestion.
