A van driver was hit over the head during an early morning robbery in Bathford today.
Three men in a dark saloon car escaped with what police are describing as "a large quantity of cash" after the incident on the A4 at around 5am.
The victim was driving a white Citroen van from the Chippenham to Bath direction when he was pulled over from behind by a dark car which flashed its headlights.
When he stopped, he was hit over the head, and the three men searched the vehicle and drove off with the money.
They left the man slumped by the side of the road, where he was spotted by a passing motorist who stopped and called the police.
He was taken to hospital for treatment for a head injury but was not seriously hurt.
Detective Inspector Charlotte Tucker, of Bath CID, appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
She said: "It is very early into our investigation and we would appeal to anyone with any information to contact us on 101.
"We would like to hear from anyone who saw the van driving from the Chippenham direction this morning, or who may have seen a dark saloon driving away from the scene."
