Well boy howdy am I excited. We might just be looking at two days of quality weekend broadcasting. What next? Rivers of blood? Fire rain? Frogs and locusts? I kid of course, nothing makes this job easier than actually good TV as constantly being filled with Top Gear induced rage is bad for your heart.
Kicking things off are Channel 5 at 6:50pm with Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Why there hasn't been three of these is an absolute mystery as Guillermo Del Toro is truly one of the visionary directors of our time. Based around the comicbooks of the same name the film picks up with the same team following the events of the first film. Without giving the plot away, it's well worth a watch.
If the son of the devil fighting a renegade elf prince is not your thing then not to worry, because over on ITV at 7pm there's a new series of Catchphrase presented by CITV veteran Stephen Mulhern. Say what you see. A man with no other options.
Going back over to BBC 1 at 9pm and you can enjoy another does of 17th century Paris as imagined by Guy Ritchie. Vinny Jones guest stars this week which will be wonderful if only to see him have a crack at a French accent. Of course I, like a lot of people, am only watching to see Peter Capaldi getting into gear to be the new doctor.
Topping of what would have been a really good night on the box is You Saw Them Here First on ITV at 10:15pm. You Saw Them Here First seems to be heir to the It'll Be Alright On The Night crown in that it comes on at ITV and lulls you to sleep with a combination of old TV and canned laughter. Unfortunately, You Saw Them Here First is followed by rugby highlights which are neither soothing or filled with laughter.
