Bradford on Avon Lorry Watch 'mean business' after 7 more prosecutions

More firms have been fined for breaching the weight limit on the historic Town Bridge at Bradford on Avon. Campaigners from the Lorry Watch group say they have proved they mean business after seven further prosecutions related to large trucks flouting the safety limit on the historic bridge. Bradford on Avon Lorry Watch was launched in 2012 with a team of dedicated volunteers. The group works with the town council and Wiltshire Council in order to monitor vehicles using the crossing. In the latest prosecutions last month, the seven companies were ordered to pay a total of £5,671 in fines and costs. Keith Humphries, cabinet member for public protection at Wiltshire Council, said: "This is another good result for the Lorry Watch scheme and I thank the volunteers for their efforts. "We hope this action sends out a very clear message to other haulage companies and drivers that we mean business and will take action." Firms and independent drivers based in areas from South Wales to Suffolk were prosecuted by Wiltshire Council at Swindon Magistrates Court.
