Fire investigators have said a blaze at Moles nightclub in Bath was caused by faulty electrics. Yesterday morning's incident caused disruption in the city centre as emergency services closed George Street for a number of hours while they tackled the fire. Smoke was seen billowing from the building's windows, but the fire was contained to the ground floor and crews quickly got it under control. The extent of the damage has not yet been revealed, but the club is currently closed. Nobody was in the building when the fire started and nobody was injured. An Avon Fire and Rescue spokesman confirmed they believed the cause of the fire was accidental and said it had been started by an electrical fault. Moles co-owner Phil Andrews was called to the scene around 9am shortly after the alarm was raised and was at the club yesterday while emergency services were working. Moles is arguably Bath's best known nightclub and has a long history of hosting upcoming live acts and bands. In the past it has hosted bands such as Oasis, Radiohead, Supergrass and the Manic Street Preachers on their road to stardom. Mr Andrews, who also owns the Chapel Arts Centre and is co-director of the Jane Austen Centre, has owned Moles since the late 1970s. He sold it in 2009, but took it back on again in September 2012, in partnership with long-term promoter and DJ Tom Maddicott.
