Judges have met this week to decide on the shortlist for this year's Bristol and Bath Women in Business Awards.

The inaugural awards have attracted almost 100 entries in the ten categories.

The awards, supported by headline sponsor the University of the West of England, are being run by The Bath Chronicle and sister publication the Bristol Post.

The Contribution to the Community section has proved popular among Bath businesswomen

Zita Alves, owner of Zest Bootcamp, has entered the category. She launched her boot camp business in 2009 and over the last four years has helped to get people in Bath fit and active.

"I have opened up opportunities for people who previously never exercised to find something that they enjoy and have stuck to.

"Many boot campers' children have come along to watch, so we are creating good role models for future generations. We have also raised money for charity this year through health talks and also donations of treats to Julian House."

Personal assistance expert Angela MacAusland, who owns AMPMPA, has also entered the category, showcasing her work with the Save the Richmond Arms campaign and her election as chair of the Bath branch of the Federation of Small Businesses.

"I am always willing and able to help others and will always respond to requests for advice on setting up and running a business in Bath. I recently took part in a survey with University of Bath students about working in the charitable and volunteer sector in the city.

"Additionally I have mentored several people who have started businesses similar to mine, and gave advice on how to get started and market their services."

The shortlist will be announced next week, while the winners will be revealed at a gala dinner being held at the Bristol City Centre Marriott on April 2.
