Castle Combe Circuit has cancelled its Racing School Driving Experience Day tomorrow due to flooding on the track.
The Racing School at Castle Combe Circuit has been operating for over 20 years and it is believed that this is the first time that the Circuit has had to cancel a day in advance due to flooding.
Managing Director Graham Marshallsay said: "We take the safety of all our events very seriously. Although the sun is shining and the floodwater receding fast, there is more rain forecast for tomorrow and the circuit is, with all likelihood, going to flood again very quickly.
"The groundwater level is at an unprecedented high and the ground to either side of the circuit is, in places, absolutely waterlogged. It won't take much rain for the water to creep back onto the circuit and this could prove hazardous with drivers taking some of these stretches at 100mph or so.
"We are in contact with all our customers who are booked in for tomorrow and are treating each on a case by case basis. Many are already booking new dates for 2013.
"As far as we are concerned this is absolutely unprecedented in the Circuit's history. We have, on occasion, cancelled a day due to snow or fog but never to floodwater. Considering we're on the top of a hill with generally very good run off, this is completely unexpected and can only be a measure of how much rain has fallen not just in the last few days but also over the whole year."
"The circuit would like to reiterate its apologies to all who were meant to be attending Racing School tomorrow but we do have to take every precaution when it comes to safety on the circuit. This is a situation not to be taken lightly."
