A council in Lancashire has rejected a new logo because it is similar to branding used by Bath's sex toy firm Lovehoney. Councillors at Pendle Borough Council argued the new design, which was part of a re-branding exercise to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the authority, was inappropriate. At the moment the council's logo is inspired by local landmark Pendle Hill but the new design was a green heart. A project proposal on the council's website said the new design sought to "change hearts and minds" and encourage residents and businesses to take pride in Pendle. However, councillors rejected the design at a recent meeting with claims it was inadequately thought through. Local newspaper, the Lancashire Telegraph quoted Lid Dem Councillor Ann Kerrigan. "A similar logo belongs to another organisation and it really does concern me because do we want Pendle to share a logo with a sex shop like Lovehoney? "It wouldn't do much for Pendle and I don't think we should be associating our logo with this kind of thing." Leader of Pendle Council, Councillor Joe Cooney, said the logo had been designed by a councillor who is a graphic designer and came up with the campaign. He said: "The aim of the campaign is to celebrate all of the great things that Pendle has to offer to encourage people to live and work here and visit our attractions. "It's now been referred to the council's scrutiny management committee's work programme for 2014/15 for further consideration so that all political parties can get involved." Lovehoney is one Bath's fastest growing businesses. Just last month is reported profit after tax trebled in the year to March 2013 from £750,000 to £2.25 million driven primarily by its deal to launch exclusive Fifty Shades of Grey merchandise. The company frequently hits the headlines because of its risque products. Co-owner Richard Longhurt said the Pendle debate was good news for the firm. "For us it's absolutely wonderful that Lovehoney is being noticed. This just shows how far we have reached into the fabric of society - at least in Pendle. "I think its disappointing they decided not to go with it. Lovehoney is about sexual health. A fun and fulfilled sex life is an important part of your general wellbeing like going to the gym or eating your five-a-day but more fun. "I can understand though perhaps a council in association with Lovehoney would be inappropriate but only people who know Lovehoney might make the connection." The company has offered any of the councillors who objected to the logo a free sex toy.
