What a difference a week can make - especially for the contestants in our Slim to Win competition. Lucy Mcleod, 33, from Weston, Kevin Wakenshaw-Smith, 35 from Bear Flat, and Rachael Stannard, 49, from Corsham have vowed to change their ways, and improve their health and fitness. It has been one week since they met their James Street West Fitness First personal trainers Sarah Graham, Steve Wootten and Carl Constanza, and already there have been positive changes. Kevin, who weighs 26 stone vowed to get fit and healthy for his 13-year-old daughter Alice. He has already lost a stone, and his personal trainer Carl is pleased with his progress. Carl said: "The first session we discussed the benefits of healthy food and what he will need to eat to start the process. "His nutrition is very clean and organic with plenty of water and three well planned meals a day. "Although Kev is losing weight starving him is the wrong approach and would have a negative effect on his metabolic rate. "He has already lost a stone, which will mainly be due to the detox along side his hard work and commitment. "The next measurement may be less as he stabilises and gets into the slightly harder stages of his journey, however I expect it to always be a positive progress." It has been a tough week for Lucy, but she has battled through and is expected to have a good weigh-in this week. Weighing 14 and a half stone, she has neglected her health for years, and feels self-conscious about her size. Her personal trainer Sarah said: "I think this week has been an eye opener for Lucy, but that was needed to kick start this new lifestyle. "We have had two really good training sessions so far, and Lucy is starting to train with real determination. "Nutrition and the hug changes I enforced proved to be really tough, she was feeling sick and had a constant headache. "But she did as I asked, battled through, and is now feeling the benefits. "Overall a tough but really positive week." Rachael has been given tips on improving her diet, and has lost 3lbs so far. Trainer Steve said she has had a great week: "It has been a great week of training, I have reintroduced her to some basic exercises and cardio equipment as it has been a few years since she was last using a gym regularly. "She is currently coming in twice a week for personal training, and twice on her own for cardio. "We have done a little bit of work together cleaning up her diet and establishing where her baseline calorie intake is so that if progress slows we can increase cardio or decrease calorie intake appropriately. "On Monday she weighed in 3lbs lighter than the week before which is great for her first week, and we plan to maintain a similar rate of fat loss over the next few weeks." The Slim to Win challenge runs for three months, and at the end the person who has improved the most will win free gym membership with Fitness First for a year. Each participant will receive on-to-one training and advice, with diet and exercise plans worked out to suit their needs. They are being joined by Bath Chronicle leisure editor Emma Dance, who has just become engaged and so has the perfect incentive to get fitter and slimmer. Over the three months we will bring you regular updates on their progress.
