Young cooks have been battling it out in the kitchen in the hope of being crowned Bath's Chef v Chef champions. This is the ninth year of the prestigious contest and once again it has brought together the area's top and aspiring working chefs, as well as students from the City of Bath College. They have been given the task of impressing a panel of expert judges, which includes celebrity chef Martin Blunos, Scott Lucas from Winford Manor and Jonathan Newbury of the Valley Smokehouse. There are two categories, the under 23s and the over 23s, with all entrants needing to work in a commercial kitchen within a 50-mile radius of Bath or attend a course at the college. Steve Benison, from the City of Bath College, said the competition always proved to be a great opportunity to challenge local young chefs to push themselves. He said: "We want to inspire our young people to excel in 21st century kitchens, first learning the basic skills, but then going on to develop more advanced techniques. "Having a competition like Chef v Chef based at the college gives them something exciting to aim for, to watch at first hand and work alongside some of those who are already employed and continuing to strive for excellence in the trade." Chef v Chef is taking place at the Avon Street college all day, with the winners due to be announced later this afternoon.Click here to view a gallery of pictures from the competition
