Paramedics have tricky job trying to rescue woman from Bath woods

Paramedics had a difficult job in Bath yesterday trying to rescue an injured woman who had fallen from a tree in the middle of a woods. Two ambulance crews and an air ambulance were called to Smallcombe Wood, near Widcombe Hill, just after 1pm after a female walker suffered injuries to her arm and shoulder. Her location was around a quarter of a mile into the woods and a Hazardous Area Response Team was sent in to try to negotiate the muddy terrain. However, the vehicle became stuck on a slope and had to be winched back on to the track. In the end, paramedics reached the patient by foot and walked her back through the woods to a nearby field, where a 4x4 vehicle was waiting to take her to the ambulance. A South Western Ambulance Service spokesman said the woman had suffered a "nasty injury" to her arm and shoulder, but the air ambulance was not needed and she had been taken to hospital by road. The rescue operation took around three hours and the scene was clear by around 4pm.
