There are many things that people swear help cure hangovers, but do they really work?
From not mixing your drinks, to exercising or eating a fry up for breakfast different people have different ways to help the morning after the big party.
But University research has found that there is no cure for overindulge this festive season.
One idea people share is that not mixing drinks will help lessen the results of a night on the town.
The reason why one drink may give us a worse hangover than another is the amount of congeners it includes.
These are biological compounds made during the alcohol fermentation process or added to a drink during production.
Drinks with only a few congeners, such as gin and vodka, have been shown to induce less hangovers than those with high levels, like brandy or red wine can induce more hangovers.
Scientists studied people drinking bourbon and vodka, and found that participants had a greater hangover after bourbon, the higher congener content, than vodka, with lower levels.
However the two drinks did not cause different effects on sleep, reaction time, motor performance, memory and attention the day after drinking.
So the conclusion was that while different beverages may influence the hangover they will not necessarily affect performance on everyday tasks such as driving, reading, or concentration in general.
Many people swear that hangovers get worse the older you get.
However scientists say this may just be down to the fact that adults who binge drink may consume fewer drinks that younger drinkers.
A Danish study looking at younger and older drinkers actually found that the tendency to experience hangovers decreased with age.
The report suggested that the differences in hangovers may reflect differences in binge drinking patterns, with older adults who binge maybe consuming fewer drinks per binge than younger adults, resulting in fewer and less severe hangovers.
A review in the British Medical Journal in 2005 found that there was no evidence of ways to prevent or treat hangovers.
The article concludes by saying that the most effective way to avoid a hangover is to drink in moderation or to abstain from drinking alcohol.
