A 44-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of Bath hospital worker Melanie Hall has been re-bailed until February. He was arrested back in November at his home in Bath as part of the high-profile investigation into the death of the 25-year-old, who was killed after disappearing from a city nightclub back in 1996. He was held at a police station in Bristol and questioned for two days, before being released on police bail pending further inquiries. He answered that bail today and an Avon and Somerset Police spokesman has confirmed that he has been re-bailed, while investigations continue. Last month detectives also searched a property in Roundhill Park, in Whiteway, understood to be the house where the arrested man used to live. The arrest is the first breakthrough in the case since the police's most recent appeal for anyone with information to come forward. At the beginning of October, Det Supt Mike Courtiour, who is leading the investigation, revealed they had uncovered new evidence about the murder. In an interview with the Chronicle, he said they had detailed information about the blue rope used to tie up her body and had seized a white A-registered Volkswagen Golf CTI cabriolet car, which was being examined by forensic scientists. He once again said the key to solving Melanie's murder lay with the people of Bath and appealed for anyone with information to come forward. That appeal marked the fourth anniversary of the discovery of Melanie's body, which had been wrapped in bin bags and left next to the slip road of junction 14 of the M5. She was last seen at Cadillacs nightclub, in Walcot Street, in the early hours of June 9, 1996. Anyone with information can contact, in confidence, the murder incident room on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
