Tesco will find out this week whether or not it can build a new supermarket in the city.
Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles, will make the decision following a nine-day public enquiry.
Tesco is hoping to over turn a decision by Bath and North East Somerset Council to refuse them permission to build a new store at the Bath Press site on Lower Bristol Road.
The application was rejected by B&NES Council because of fears over traffic and the impact on Moorland Road businesses. The authority also claimed that there were other preferred sites for such a development like Green Park where Sainsbury's hopes to rebuild its store.
Despite withdrawing its application for a £160 million redevelopment of its Green Park store Sainsbury's claims it is committed to building a new store.
Government Inspector George Baird, who chaired the public enquiry earlier this year, failed to make a decision on the Bath Press site and instead passed a recommendation for Mr Pickles to decide on.
