Two Bath men have received bravery awards for risking their own lives to save a neighbour from a house fire. Thomas Wood and Patrick Jordan rushed into a flat in Pitman Court, in Gloucester Road, Larkhall, when the kitchen fire broke out back on Saturday, October 19. They found the woman who lived there unconscious in the hallway, outside her bedroom door, having collapsed from smoke inhalation. The pair managed to rescue her before firefighters arrived and she was then treated by paramedics and taken to hospital. Last Friday Mr Wood and Mr Jordan received Chief Fire Officer's Commendations in recognition of their actions. Avon Fire and Rescue Service Chief Fire Officer Kevin Pearson congratulated the men. He said: "A Chief Fire Officer's Commendation is awarded to members of the public or staff who show outstanding courage and bravery. "The fire had been burning for some considerable time and the action taken by Mr Wood and Mr Jordan undoubtedly saved the lady's life. "They showed considerable bravery putting the life of a member of their community before their own."
