An elderly man has been targeted by a distraction burglar in Bath.
This is the fourth incident to occur in the city over the past month and police are once again advising people to be cautious.
In this latest case, the would-be thief left empty handed after he was challenged by his victim.
Tuesday's incident happened in Hampton View, in Fairfield Park, when a man claiming to be mending a pipe in the next door garden asked to enter the home of a 78-year-old man to turn off the valve in the kitchen.
He was let in and went into the dining room, where he was seen to search through some drawers.
He was challenged and left empty-handed.
It follows three similar incidents in Englishcombe Lane, Southdown and Twerton in November where elderly people had cash stolen from their homes by bogus workmen.
The man who called at Hampton View is described as aged 35 to 40, 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build and with short dark brown hair.
He was wearing a yellow fluorescent jacket and light blue jeans.
Bath police say the burglaries do not appear to be connected.
They are appealing for any information, and advising people never to allow strangers into their home.
People should call 999 if they have any suspicions.
